چکیده

Multicomponent data usually are not processed with specifically designed procedures but with procedures analogous to those used for single-component data. In isotropic media, the vertical and horizontal components of the data commonly are taken as proxies for the Pand S-wave modes, which are imaged independently with the acoustic wave equations. This procedure works only if the vertical and horizontal components accurately represent Pand S-wave modes, which generally is not true. Therefore, multicomponent images constructed with this procedure exhibit artifacts caused by incorrect wave-mode separation at the surface. An alternative procedure for elastic imaging uses the full vector fields for wavefield reconstruction and imaging. The wavefields are reconstructed using the multicomponent data as a boundary condition for a numerical solution to the elastic wave equation. The key component for wavefield migration is the imaging condition, which evaluates the match between wave-

3D angle decomposition for elastic reverse time migration

We propose 3D angle decomposition methods from elastic reverse time migration using timeand space-lag common image point gathers, time-lag common image gathers, and space-lag common image gathers computed by elastic wavefield migration. We compute time-lag common image gathers at multiple contiguous locations, instead of isolated positions as is commonly done with common image gathers. Then, we...

Scalar imaging condition for elastic reverse time migration

Polarity changes in converted-wave images constructed by elastic reverse time migration cause destructive interference after stacking over the experiments of a seismic survey. This polarity reversal is due to PS and SP reflectivities reversing sign at certain incidence angles, e.g., at normal incidence in isotropic media. Many of the available polarity correction methods are complex and require...

3D angle gathers from reverse time migration

Common-image gathers are an important output of prestack depth migration. They provide information needed for velocity model building and amplitude and phase information for subsurface attribute interpretation. Conventionally, common-image gathers are computed using Kirchhoff migration on commonoffset/azimuth data volumes. When geologic structures are complex and strong contrasts exist in the v...

Elastic Prestack , Reverse - Time Migration

Elastic prestack, reverse-time depth migration is applied to both synthetic data and four-component eld data from the Valhall area. Reverse-time extrapolation of the recorded multi-component data is by 2-D elastic nite di erence solution to the full wave equation. An eikonal solver is used to compute the acoustic traveltime from the source to the image points. By using horizontal inline and ver...
